The project will focus to bring clean water to "Maboma" (household) in Monduli Villages and help women and girls to have more hours to concentrate in other income generating activities and education.
2024 Water Harvesting Fund Raiser for 30+K Maasai in Losimingori District, Tanzania
Goals for 2024 to expand support to 7000+ Maasai with clean water [March to August]
- Expand access to clean water to 7000+ Maasi w/ reduced need to walk 9 hr/day
- Subsidized Low cost Water Harvesting Units: Deploy 5 subsidized water harvesting units and scale to 100+ Bomas [2000 Maasai community]
- Water Harvesting Unit at School: One 40,000 liter water harvesting unit to support 900+ students in a local school
- Water filtering units for two existing natural/man made water bodies
- Water Vision: 3 year plan for building scaled water solutions across 200+ square miles, for 30K Maasai
- Use machine learning to map all Bomas/living units for 30K Maasai
- Develop plan for solutions that can be deployed over next 2-3 years
Project 1a: Subsidized Low Cost Water Harvesting Units at Bomas [underway]
Funds raised: $3K [completed]
Goals: Deploy low-cost water harvesting solutions at 7 Bomas [living unit] supporting 15-20 family members per Boma.
Description: Water harvesting solutions can be deployed for ~$500 of which $388 will be funded and remaining $112 are indirect costs that will be contributed by the family/community [construction material, preparation, cement, nails, wire mesh, blocks, sands, labor etc.]. Rain water gutters (pipe to collect water from all side of the roof) estimated for 16 meters.

Project 1b: Water Harvesting Unit at School
Goals: Deploy water harvesting solutions of 40K liters for a school with 900+ Maasai children attending
Description: Schools see a drop in attendance in drought months as children often go to fetch water and/or attendance drop due to water diseases [no access to clean water]. For a local school in Losimingori, District where 900 students come to study, we want to deploy a 40K liter water harvesting unit using the roof of the school. Similar to previous projects we will partner with the local community to ensure they are invested in building, deploying and maintaining the water harvesting units
Project 1c: Water Filtering Unit
Goals: Deploy water filtering unit at man-made/ponds/small dams where water is collected during rainy season for use in drought season but water is not clean
Description: Partner with the local community members and dam water committees where best to install water filtration systems that filters water and makes it clean for human use. Our system uses simple technology, including the dam's water, two plastic tanks, an automatic solar water pump, Aluminium Sulphate, and Chlorine (Currently, at Maji Wells, we are preparing a universal standard operating procedure (SOP), which will be a step-by-step, repeatable procedure. The SOP would organise the “must know” and “how to do” for the project – like a blueprint, guidelines, or operations manual.
